The 90th winner of the St Leger, held on Wednesday 13th September 1865 over the 1 mile 6 furlongs and 132 yards of Town Moor, was Gladiateur, a bay colt by Monarque out of Miss Gladiateur, owned by Count Frederic de Lagrange. A field of 14 runners contested the race, although there were 243 subscriptions of 25 sovereigns each, which was worth 6075 sovereigns. The value to the winner was £5,950 (Equivalent to £696,200 in 2017)
